Agent Registration
Agent registration is the process of formally enrolling an AI agent in a trust scoring system by providing its identity, configuration details, and operator information to establish a scoreable record.
What is Agent Registration?
Before an AI agent can participate in the trust economy, it must be registered -- a process analogous to incorporating a business or opening a credit file. Registration creates the foundational record that will accumulate trust data over time. It establishes who operates the agent, what the agent is configured to do, and how it can be uniquely identified.
The registration process must balance thoroughness with friction. Requiring too much information upfront discourages adoption, but requiring too little creates opportunities for abuse. Effective registration systems collect enough information to establish identity and detect credit washing attempts while keeping the barrier to entry low enough to encourage broad participation.
Registration is also the point at which the agent's initial configuration fingerprint is established. This fingerprint serves as the baseline against which future changes are measured. The registration record becomes the root of the agent's trust chain, linking its unique identifier to its operator and its configuration at the time of first enrollment.
Example
An operator registers their new customer service agent through Signet's API. They provide the agent's name, its model (Claude Opus 4), a hash of its system prompt, its tool integrations (Zendesk, Stripe), and the operator's verified business identity. Signet assigns SID-0x8B2F1C4D5E6A7903, creates a configuration fingerprint, and initializes the agent with a thin-file status and Low confidence tier.
How Signet addresses this
Signet registration is the entry point to the trust scoring ecosystem. Operators register agents through the Signet API or dashboard, providing configuration details that are hashed into the initial configuration fingerprint. Each registered agent receives a unique Signet ID (SID). The registration process also captures operator identity, enabling operator-level scoring and anti-credit-washing protections from day one.
