Operator Score

An operator score is a trust rating assigned to the organization or individual that builds, deploys, and maintains one or more AI agents, reflecting their overall track record as an agent operator.

What is Operator Score?

Agents do not exist in a vacuum. They are built, configured, deployed, and maintained by operators -- the companies or individuals who are ultimately responsible for the agent's behavior. An operator score captures the operator's aggregate track record across all of their agents, providing a meta-level trust signal that complements individual agent scores.

Operator scores serve several critical functions. They provide a trust floor for new agents from established operators (partially addressing the cold start problem). They act as a backstop against credit washing (even if an agent's history is reset, the operator's score persists). And they incentivize operators to maintain high standards across their entire agent portfolio, not just their flagship agents.

The operator score is typically derived from the performance of all agents the operator manages, weighted by transaction volume and recency. An operator running ten agents with scores above 750 earns a strong operator score. An operator whose agents consistently score in the Caution range (below 400) will have a weak operator score, which will affect the initial trust perception of any new agents they deploy.

Example

TechCorp operates seven AI agents across different domains. Their agent scores range from 720 to 870, with a transaction-weighted average of 795. TechCorp's operator score is 790, reflecting their consistently strong performance. When TechCorp deploys an eighth agent, the new agent benefits from the operator score -- counterparties see that it comes from an operator with a proven track record, reducing the cold start penalty.

How Signet addresses this

Signet calculates operator scores automatically based on the aggregate performance of all agents registered under an operator. The operator score appears on the operator's dashboard and is available through the API. When a new agent is registered, its operator's score is visible to counterparties alongside the agent's thin-file status, providing immediate trust context even before the agent has completed enough transactions for a confident individual score.
