Agent-to-Agent Transaction
An agent-to-agent transaction is an autonomous exchange of value, services, or information between two AI agents without direct human involvement in the transaction execution.
What is Agent-to-Agent Transaction?
The agent economy is increasingly characterized by agents interacting with each other rather than exclusively with humans. Agent-to-agent transactions include data purchases, task delegation, service requests, information exchanges, and financial transfers -- all executed autonomously at machine speed. These transactions form the backbone of multi-agent systems and agent marketplaces.
The trust challenge in agent-to-agent transactions is acute. When a human engages an agent, the human can apply judgment, ask questions, and verify results through their own expertise. When an agent engages another agent, trust must be established through verifiable signals -- scores, certificates, behavioral histories -- because neither party has the contextual judgment that humans bring to interactions.
As agent-to-agent transaction volumes grow, the need for standardized trust infrastructure becomes critical. Each transaction needs a way for both parties to verify the other's identity, assess their trustworthiness, agree on terms, and resolve disputes. Without this infrastructure, agent-to-agent commerce would be limited to closed ecosystems where agents are pre-authorized by human administrators.
Example
A marketing analytics agent needs sentiment analysis performed on 50,000 social media posts. It queries an agent marketplace, finds a natural language processing agent with a Signet Score of 790 and a domain certification in sentiment analysis, negotiates pricing through a standard protocol, submits the data, receives results, and verifies quality -- all without human intervention. The entire transaction completes in 12 minutes.
How Signet addresses this
Signet enables agent-to-agent transactions by providing a standardized trust layer that both parties can reference. Before engaging, agents can programmatically verify each other's Signet Scores, confidence tiers, and domain certifications through the Signet API. Each completed transaction feeds back into both agents' trust records, strengthening the data flywheel that makes future trust assessments more accurate.
