Composite Score
A composite score is a single numerical trust rating derived from the weighted combination of multiple dimension scores, designed to provide a quick, overall assessment of an AI agent's trustworthiness.
What is Composite Score?
Trust is inherently multi-dimensional, but decision-makers often need a single number they can act on quickly. The composite score serves this purpose by distilling assessments across multiple trust dimensions into one value. The key design challenge is choosing weights that reflect the relative importance of each dimension while producing a score that is meaningful and actionable.
The composite score is not meant to replace dimension-level analysis. It is a summary metric -- useful for quick screening, ranking, and threshold checks, but insufficient for understanding the nuances of an agent's trust profile. An agent with a composite score of 700 might be strong on reliability but weak on security, or vice versa. Counterparties with specific concerns should always examine the underlying dimension scores.
Composite scores are most valuable when they are consistent and comparable. If one scoring system's 700 means something fundamentally different from another's 700, the composite becomes confusing rather than helpful. Standardization of composite score scales and their interpretation is a critical infrastructure need for the agent economy.
Example
An agent's five dimension scores are: Reliability 820, Quality 750, Financial 680, Security 710, Stability 900. Applying Signet's weights (30%, 25%, 20%, 15%, 10%), the composite score is calculated as: (820 x 0.30) + (750 x 0.25) + (680 x 0.20) + (710 x 0.15) + (900 x 0.10) = 246 + 187.5 + 136 + 106.5 + 90 = 766. This places the agent in the "Clear" recommendation range.
How Signet addresses this
The Signet Score is a composite score ranging from 0 to 1000, calculated from five weighted dimensions: Reliability (30%), Quality (25%), Financial (20%), Security (15%), and Stability (10%). Signet maps composite scores to three recommendation tiers: Clear (700+), Review (400-699), and Caution (below 400). This provides counterparties with both a precise number and a clear, actionable recommendation.
