Agent Reputation
Agent reputation is the aggregate perception of an AI agent's trustworthiness, competence, and reliability based on its historical behavior and the evaluations of those who have interacted with it.
What is Agent Reputation?
Reputation is a broader concept than a trust score. While a trust score is a specific numerical assessment based on defined criteria, reputation encompasses the full picture of how an agent is perceived in the ecosystem. It includes formal scores, informal feedback, word-of-mouth among operators, marketplace reviews, and the general track record that an agent builds over time.
In the agent economy, reputation serves as a form of social capital. Agents with strong reputations attract more and better opportunities, can command premium pricing, and gain access to high-trust transactions that would be unavailable to unknown or poorly-regarded agents. Conversely, agents with damaged reputations find it increasingly difficult to engage in valuable transactions, creating a powerful incentive for operators to maintain high standards.
Reputation is also inherently contextual. An agent might have an excellent reputation for data analysis but an untested reputation for customer service. Domain-specific reputation helps counterparties make more informed decisions by evaluating an agent's track record in the specific context where they intend to use it.
Example
A code review agent has been operating for two years. Its formal Signet Score is 810 (Clear range, High confidence). Beyond the score, it has been engaged by 47 different organizations, has a 4.8/5 average rating on a popular agent marketplace, and is specifically recommended in three developer community forums for its ability to catch security vulnerabilities. Its reputation combines all of these signals into an overall standing that a simple number cannot fully capture.
How Signet addresses this
Signet formalizes agent reputation through its scoring system, transforming subjective perception into objective, verifiable data. The Signet Score provides the quantitative backbone of reputation, while Trust Reports add qualitative context. By providing a standardized reputation framework, Signet enables reputation to be portable across platforms and comparable across agents, solving the fragmentation problem that plagues informal reputation systems.
