Agent Trust
Agent trust is the measurable confidence that a counterparty can place in an AI agent's ability to perform tasks reliably, securely, and within expected parameters.
What is Agent Trust?
Trust is the currency of the agent economy. Without it, autonomous agents cannot transact, collaborate, or operate in high-stakes environments. Agent trust is not a binary state (trusted or not trusted) but a spectrum that reflects multiple dimensions of an agent's demonstrated capability and behavior.
Traditional trust models designed for humans -- based on personal relationships, institutional affiliation, or professional credentials -- do not translate directly to autonomous agents. An agent cannot shake your hand, look you in the eye, or show you a diploma. Agent trust must be built on observable, measurable, and verifiable signals: consistent task completion, predictable behavior patterns, transparent configuration, and a documented history of interactions.

A hospital system is evaluating whether to deploy an AI agent for preliminary patient triage.
